§ 102-1. Purpose.

  • It is intended by this chapter to promote the general health, safety, morals, convenience, and welfare of the people within the city's zoning jurisdiction. These regulations are required to provide adequate space for light and air; to avoid undue concentration of population; to secure safety from fire, panic, and other dangers; to control congestion in the streets and public ways; to control and abate the unsightly use of buildings or land; to facilitate provisions for community services and public utilities, including transportation, water, sewers, schools, parks, and other public requirements; to discourage the inappropriate use of land; to preserve cultural and historic properties; and to conserve and stabilize the value of property.
